In the grand Banqueting Hall there were bear hugs, tears, comforting conversations and smiles, as families came together to feel less alone and learn more about the support Aching Arms offers after pregnancy and baby loss.
The Deputy Lord Mayor spoke about the charity and why she had chosen us as one of her charities. She invited families to remember their babies by adding their name to a forget me not heart and placing it on the memory tree. In attendance was one of our 2023 London Marathon runners Suzie, in the bear costume she is going to wear as she pounds the streets of London to raise funds for Aching Arms. The children all agreed she gave the best bear hugs. We were delighted to host this event in such a beautiful building, it was a great honour. What about Biden you may be asking… well President Biden must have known Leanne and her family were in town so he gave them a wave as he and his entourage drove by. James? As this is the name of Leanne’s son in whose memory she founded the charity, it felt like a sign that he was with her when the well-known actor James Nesbitt sat opposite her in the airport departure lounge. Our thanks go to Laura and Ellie, our super Belfast volunteers for all their hard work in planning, preparing and attending the event. On the 14th May, Belfast City Hall was lit up in green lights, in honour of Aching Arms, we are delighted that the council could do this for us on such a special date to our Founder, Leanne and for our volunteer Laura.
