Aching Arms is a baby loss charity run by a group of bereaved mothers who have experienced the pain and devastation of baby loss.
We want to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss and bring some comfort to bereaved parents and their families.
We provide Aching Arms bears to hospitals for midwives to give to newly bereaved mothers and fathers. We reach out to those who contact us via our website, email, Twitter and Facebook and post dedicated bears.
Aching Arms was founded in 2010 and became a registered charity in August 2013. The aim when we first started was to get 10 bears into one hospital and see how it went from there. What happened was that 24 mothers sent bears dedicated in memory of their babies and now we have more than 50 hospitals working with us, with more coming on board all the time, and we have given out more than 1,000 bears.
It is so sad that there are so many families who have been bereaved but we are here to offer the hand of friendship and bring a little comfort
Aching Arms is run by a board of trustees. Since October 2014 we have a paid part-time Charity Co-ordinator. We have a team of dedicated volunteers who post bears directly to bereaved families and a network of enthusiastic volunteers across the UK who ensure we can continue to offer comfort after pregnancy and baby loss by helping prepare bears to go to hospitals around the country.
The Trustee Board includes:
